Méné

Born in Côte d’Ivoire in 1977. Lives and works in Abidjan.

“In the beginning were purity and innocence…”

Méné has found his unique mode of expression in the purity and innocence of rock art. Inspired by its palette and minimalist approach to shape, he has created a vibrant world of fresh, friendly and expressive creatures. With his brushes and fingers, he applies to canvas acrylic paint, sometimes mixed with kaolin for texture.
His wide spectrum of bright colors adds diversity to the earth tones he favored earlier in his career and showcases his cheerful and positive approach to life. On a constant quest for self-discovery and authenticity, Méné lets himself be guided by his work: when he starts a new piece, he does not yet know what it will look like in the end.

Méné graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Centre de Formation Pédagogique pour les Arts et la Culture in Abidjan. He earned immediate recognition for his work, which has been exhibited in Paris, Dakar, Barcelona, Abidjan, and Washington, DC.
